Police have released images of two vehicles involved in a fatal head-on crash on an unsealed blind corner in central Tasmania.

An 84-year-old woman was killed in the smash on Sunday afternoon near Interlaken when the Nissan in which she was a front seat passenger collided with a Toyota ute.

More than 24 hours after the crash, investigators remain at the scene and are calling for witnesses.

The Nissan driver, the 75-year-old husband of the woman killed, was taken to hospital with broken ribs and bruises.

The driver of the other vehicle "was suffering from shock but there was no physical injuries", police Sergeant Rod Carrick told reporters on Monday.

The 17-year-old and his teenage passenger were both checked by medical staff.

"We're still investigating, we're still doing scene examination and analysing all the information we're getting from that scene," Sgt Carrick said, declining to confirm which vehicle had crossed onto the wrong side of the road.
