A thief has taunted police by painting cheeky messages on a stolen car used to commit an armed robbery in south east Queensland.

The bandit was armed with a machete when he threatened two customers while robbing a service station at Glenwood on Wednesday afternoon, police say.

The man, described as 175cm tall with a stocky build, was, driving possibly a Holden VN Commodore or VS Toyota Lexen with the words 'cop hunter' painted on the bonnet, 'crime does pay' on one side of the car and 'Merry Christmas' on the right hand side of the boot.
