A Queensland policeman has been granted bail after facing court on a string of child sex charges.

The 46-year-old constable, who can't be named for legal reasons, is charged with one count of rape and 11 counts of indecent treatment of a child.

The offences are described as "historical" and are understood to date back four to six years.

Magistrate Elizabeth Hall granted bail with several conditions, including that he have no contact with the complainants and their families, and that he not use any device including a phone or a computer to access the Internet.

The prosecution also requested he be prevented from visiting a township, which they did not name to protect the identity of his alleged victims.

The constable from the southern region has been suspended from the police service while the allegations against him are dealt with.

The matter was adjourned until November 7.
