A pilot has serious injuries after his cropdusting plane broke apart when it crashed on a central Queensland property.

The 52-year-old man was airlifted to Rockhampton Base Hospital after being pulled from the wreckage, which crashed on the sprawling Venus Downs property, at Rolleston, on Monday afternoon.

Police believe the aircraft clipped trees while flying at low altitude.

The ambulance service said the man was stable despite suffering serious injuries.

Australian Search and Rescue will conduct an investigation with police, which will be overseen by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
