Queensland Health has shut down a Brisbane dental clinic because of concerns over their sterilisation, but there's no need for alarm says the chief health officer.

Dr Jeannette Young says Queensland Health has taken action under the Public Health Act to order Gap Free Smiles at Carina to close until proper infection control standards are met.

Dr Young says health officials raised concerns this week and any patients of the clinic should call 13 HEALTH to arrange testing for blood borne diseases, including viruses such as Hepatitis C, but "the risk of transmission is very small".
