Firefighters across Queensland are urging locals to stay alert and up to date with warnings as a heatwave is set to scorch the state over the weekend.

With temperatures expected to rise above 40C across inland parts of the state, Rural Fire Services assistant commissioner Tom Dawson said the fire danger had increased.

"The forecast heatwave and dry conditions will be the worst we've experienced this season," Mr Dawson said.
