A man has been charged after allegedly pretending to be a police officer and using a fake gun to rob a motorist west of Brisbane.

Police say the 50-year-old pulled the motorist from his car before throwing him on to the ground, tying his hands behind his back, and threatening him with the replica handgun.

He allegedly stole the man's wallet and mobile phone, and was arrested at the scene.

He's due to face the Richlands Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon charged with a string of offences, including impersonating police and deprivation of liberty.
