A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed four times on Queensland's Darling Downs.

The 32-year-old got into an argument with another man in Warwick, southwest of Brisbane, about 5pm on Saturday.

Police found the victim with four stab wounds to his chest and stomach in front of a home on Tooth Street.

He was originally taken to the Warwick Hospital before being transferred to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said his alleged attacker, a 28-year-old, was known to the man.

The younger man was charged with one count of attempted murder and is expected to appear at the Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday.
