Qld man tries to strangle copper in melee

A man has been charged for striking a police constable in the face and trying to strangle him as police were trying to break up a fight at the Mount Isa Racecourse.

The fight involving a group of people occurred at 10.30pm on Saturday. The male constable was treated at Mount Isa Hospital for bruising to his face and concussion.

A 25-year-old Soldiers Hill man has been charged with serious assault police and obstruct police, and is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday.
