QUESTION TIME IN FEDERAL PARLIAMENT

WHAT WE LEARNED

* The details, manner and amount of public funding for the yes and no campaigns in the planned same-sex marriage plebiscite have yet to be determined by cabinet.

* We can expect more lone-wolf terror attacks like the knifing incident in western Sydney at the weekend because Islamic State is losing the fight in Syria and Iraq, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told MPs.

* A cost-benefit analysis of moving the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority from Canberra to Armidale - which ag minister Barnarby Joyce ignored - itself cost $272,000.

* All decisions the government takes - whether it be on the South China Sea or Australia's relationship with China - are taken in the national interest and not influenced by a $500,000 donation to the West Australian branch of the Liberal Party from communications company Huawei, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop assured MPs.

* The Liberal Party's list of achievements for the Turnbull government (one year in office) is twice as long as the achievements for the entire Menzies era (17 years), senior Labor MP Tony Burke claimed.

WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

We are creating greater economic security for Australians and their families - just have a look at the latest growth figures, a drop in the jobless numbers and rising exports.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

The commitment the prime minister gave to fund same-sex marriage plebiscite campaigns.

THEY SAID WHAT

"Is the prime minister capable of talking about his only achievement within three minutes?" - Tony Burke asks Turnbull.

"It reminds me of the famous American gangster John Dillinger, when asked why he robs banks said that is where the money is." - PM lampoons Dastyari and by association Labor.

TWEETED @Tim WattsMP: "Dutton interjecting so everyone knows he's here now."
