RBA governor sees his mug as half-full

Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe sees the glass - and the mug - as half-full, both figuratively and literally.

Dr Lowe says as an optimist he's chuffed that the sole item his predecessor Glenn Stevens left for him in his office earlier this week was a coffee mug emblazoned with the words "half full".

"I'm very pleased he did that because that's my mindset as well, that our country just has opportunities, so many things going for it. I wouldn't want to be the central bank governor in any other country than this one," Dr Lowe told a parliamentary committee on Thursday.

"I see our economy have adjusted through an incredibly large external shock ... I used to talk about this about this all the time and how we could convince people to have their glasses half full as well."
