The Reserve Bank of Australia is reshuffling its senior ranks ahead of the retirement of veteran officer Malcolm Edey.

Dr Edey, the RBA's assistant governor for the financial system, will retire at the end of October with his role taken over Michelle Bullock, currently the assistant governor for business services.

Christopher Kent will take over the role of assistant governor for financial markets, which was previously held by Guy Debelle prior to his appointment as the central bank's deputy governor.

The reshuffle follows the retirement of former RBA governor Glenn Stevens and his replacement by Philip Lowe, who took up the role as head of the bank this week.

The RBA will now advertise to fill the roles of vacated by Dr Kent and Ms Bullock
