Regional areas get faster mobile speeds

More peole living in regional areas have access to high speed mobile services after Telstra activated its sixtieth mobile base station, in Woolomin in NSW, under a federal government blackspot initiative.

The blackspot program will see $340 million spent across regional Australia, with $165 million coming from Telstra and $94.8 million from the federal government. The remaining funding will come from state and local governments.

Telstra is building 429 3G/4G mobile base stations over three years to extend coverage to more than 400 communities, and is rolling out up to 250 4G small cells.
