Review into how detainee escaped from dock

Security arrangements at a Sunshine Coast court are under review after a detainee was able to break free from the dock.

The Queensland Court Service is investigating how Dean Kenning, who was facing 20 charges ranging from driving without a licence to drug possession, was able to escape Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

Kenning is alleged to have run from the dock after assaulting a police officer. He was recaptured several hours later.

"Queensland Courts is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the alleged escape of a man from a dock at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday," a Queensland Courts spokeswoman said in a statement.

"Queensland Courts will continue to work with the Queensland Police Service in relation to the provision of security arrangements within the court."

Kenning has been additionally charged with escaping lawfully custody and assaulting police.

His new charges were brought before the same court on Tuesday with the matters being adjourned until November 9.

He remains in custody.
