Paul McCartney surprised fans at the Desert Trip festival on Saturday (15Oct16) by introducing Rihanna to the stage.

The ex-Beatle stormed through a two-and-a-half hour set of hits at the California festival last weekend (ends08Oct16), and was back for more on Saturday (15Oct16), when he welcomed Rihanna to the stage for a rendition of their hit collaboration FourFiveSeconds.

"We finally found someone under the age of 50," McCartney joked about the festival, which has featured performances from The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.

The performance came two days after Paul hit the stage on Thursday (13Oct16) at Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace in nearby Pioneertown.

"This is the biggest gig we've ever played," Paul said at the gig, where he performed hits including Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, A Hard Day's Night, I Saw Her Standing There, and Hey Jude.

McCartney is clearly enjoying his time in the desert - he showed up in a VIP suite on the first night of the festival last weekend (07Oct16) to watch The Rolling Stones perform and cheered and pumped his fist in the air when the band performed a cover of The Beatles' Come Together during its set at the inaugural Desert Trip.

The two-weekend festival wraps up on Sunday night (16Oct16) with sets from The Who and Roger Waters.
