Both men were found guilty by a jury in June of killing the 20-year-old, taking his 2.78kg of ice and dumping his body at sea bundled in a tarp and chains on May 20, 2014.

Each of them had pleaded not guilty and blamed the fatal shooting on the other, while the Crown argued Rogerson and McNamara acted in cahoots over the murder and plan to rip off Mr Gao's drugs.

The pair are expected to face the sentencing hearing at the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney on Thursday.
