Melbourne Victory have added Marco Rojas to an extended squad to take on Melbourne City in Saturday's A-League derby.

The Kiwi forward missed last Saturday's 3-0 defeat of Western Sydney with a hamstring complaint but has progressed enough in training this week for Kevin Muscat to consider the 25-year-old for the AAMI Park Christmas classic.

His chances of starting the match could be increased by Mitch Austin's stay outside of the squad.

Austin suffered an ankle injury in the round eight win over Newcastle Jets and will spend a third week on the sidelines after missing selection.

Victory will also be without young striker George Howard, who is still out with a knee complaint.

Melbourne City will be without Osama Malik (quad injury)for the match.
