A rubbish tip in Tasmania is being searched for the remains or belongings of a man who has been missing for more than three months.

Ulverstone man Noel Joseph Ingham, 58, has not been seen since he visited his doctor on July 22.

Investigators on Monday are searching an area around the Central Coast Resource Recovery Centre in Ulverstone in the hope of finding Mr Ingham, his car or his property.

Despite not being seen since July - Mr Ingham's disappearance was only reported in early October.

At the time police described him as a quiet man who had occasional visitors after moving to Tasmania a few years ago.

They believe he could have been a victim of foul play.

Forensic officers searched his home earlier this month but police declined to comment on what was found.

Mr Ingham's 2002 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee is also missing.

Police are expected to speak to the media later today.
