South Australian farmers who lost crops in the state's recent floods are eligible for $10,000 grants to get back on their feet.

The state government says 300 grants will be made available to farmers along the Gawler River, matching the number thought affected by recent storms and floods that followed.

Agriculture Minister Leon Bignell says a task force has also been set up to assist flood-affected businesses across the state with their longer-term recovery.

"Our state's agriculture sector was hit hard by the recent storms and flooding. For many farmers it may take six to 12 months to recover," Mr Bignell said.

"The state government will be here for the long haul, working with them to get them back on their feet."

The grants come on top of the $260,000 the government has allocated to help pump floodwaters away from affected properties and assistance available through the Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.
