WHAT GREYHOUND RACING SA HAS REVEALED:

* 513 greyhounds were euthanased in South Australia in 2015/16, including 31 due to racing injuries, and a further 639 dogs were rehomed.

* The regulator projects 325 dogs will be euthanased and 775 rehomed in 2016/17 with 150 dogs euthanased and 850 rehomed by 2017/18.

WHAT IS BEING CALLED FOR:

* The Greens will move a motion in the SA Legislative Council on Wednesday to establish a parliamentary inquiry into the sport in the state.

* RSCPA SA says Greyhound Racing SA should better explain how it plans to achieve the trends it has predicted which would mean less dogs euthanased.

WHAT AN INQUIRY COULD MEAN:

* If an inquiry finds serious issues with greyhound racing in SA, the state government may back down from its continued support for the industry.

* 4000 workers and volunteers would be affected by changes to the industry, which Greyhound Racing SA says provides $50 million to the state's economy.
