Three people have been hospitalised and elderly residents evacuated from a South Australian nursing home following a suspected electrical fire.

Fire crews were called to the Murray Bridge nursing home just before 7pm on Sunday.

Smoke was found in the roof and despite initial reports that a light ballast malfunction had caused a small electrical fire, firefighters were unable to find the cause of the smoke.

Three staff were taken to hospital suffering suspected smoke inhalation and residents were relocated to another wing of the Lerwin Nursing Home.
