A Tasmanian National Premier Leagues player has been sanctioned by Football Federation Australia for betting on matches, some involving his own club as well as A-League fixtures.

The unnamed player has been fined $2000 and must serve a two-match suspension for the breach, FFA boss David Gallop said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"There's a much higher integrity risk when bets are placed on matches where the participant has a direct connection," he said.
