A primary school north of Brisbane has been evacuated as two large grassfires burn in the area.

The students and teachers at Narangba State School have been moved to a nearby community centre as a precaution, with the grassfires burning near Narangba Road and Boundary Road at Kurwongbah.

Sixteen fire crews supported by water-bombing helicopters have the fire contained at this stage, with no current threat to properties.

Meanwhile, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has issued a Watch and Act alert for residents near Fernvale, west of Brisbane, with a large bushfire in the area.

Fifteen fire crews are working to contain that blaze, however they are experiencing difficulty controlling it.

Residents to the northeast of Fernvale are being urged to leave immediately or enact their bushfire plans.
