Sea World hopes to have its Storm Coaster attraction back in action this weekend after it came to a sudden stop on Friday, leaving thrillseekers stranded.

Patrons of the rollercoaster had to be rescued from a significant height at the Gold Coast theme park after a suspected sensor fault stalled the ride.

The rescue operation began around midday on Friday.

"The safety and well-being of all our guests is our top priority and our highly trained staff ensured the safest outcome was achieved with guests led down the stairs to ground level without incident," Sea World said.

A spokesman told AAP on Friday afternoon safety checks were continuing but it was hoped the ride would be back in operation for the weekend.

The rollercoaster has reportedly had similar issues before and the incident comes during busy school holidays.
