A second man has been arrested over a robbery at a South Australian service station in which two men threatened an attendant with a hammer.

Two men stole cash and cigarettes from a Mount Gambier service station early on Tuesday by wielding the tool but did not injure the worker, police say.

A 28-year-old Mount Gambier man has been charged with aggravated robbery over the incident after a 25-year-old man was earlier dealt the same charge.

He has been refused bail and will face the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
