Malcolm Turnbull says Bill Shorten is more interested in "smart alec" questions than welcoming co-operation with the government on budget repair.

As Labor sealed a deal with the government to deliver $6.3 billion in budget savings, the opposition leader asked the prime minister in parliament on Tuesday about a cabinet leak regarding same-sex marriage laws.

"He's got another shabby political question, another smart alec question," Mr Turnbull told parliament.
