Shots have reportedly been fired in a stand-off between Tasmania Police and a gunman who has barricaded himself at a Hobart home.

Authorities were called to the Maple Avenue, Moonah, property about 5.30pm Sunday over reports of a dog attack, police say in a statement.

Officers are negotiating with the man and hold concerns for his welfare.

Shots have been fired during the incident, WIN News and the Hobart Mercury report.

Neighbours have also reported on social media of hearing gun shots.

Photos posted to Twitter show a police armoured BearCat vehicle in front of a house and an ambulance at the scene.
