Showers to dampen Qld Xmas celebrations

Many Queenslanders will likely be moving their Christmas celebrations indoors, with showers expected across much of the Sunshine State.

While those in the southeast are set to be gifted some fairly pleasant weather on Sunday, those further north are unlikely to be as rapt by their forecast.

Rain and potential thunderstorms are predicted for areas between Bundaberg and Townsville and much of the state's interior.

The weather should be mostly sunny in the southeast corner, with only a slight chance of showers forecast in most parts.

A possible light morning shower is forecast for Brisbane, where the mercury is tipped to reach a reasonable 28C.

There's also a slight chance of a light shower on the Gold Coast, with the chances of rain slightly higher on the Sunshine Coast.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Mark Trenorden said Queenslanders should be reasonably pleased with the Christmas forecast considering no extreme weather was forecast.

"The maximum temperatures will be close to average in most parts of the state, except the the northwest which will be a few degrees below due to cloud cover," he said.
