Federal police are not seeking extra taxpayer funding to weed out a "boys club" culture after a review found widespread harassment and bullying.

Commissioner Andrew Colvin told a Senate estimates hearing on Monday a new independent division had been set up along with a safe place team to hear complaints.

But he said the Australian Federal Police would not be claiming victory any time soon as cultural change would take many years and the changes would need to stick.
