AUSTRALIA V PAKISTAN DAY ONE

Score: Australia 3-288, after winning the toss.

Man of the moment: Steve Smith. The Australian captain's unbeaten 110 complemented half centuries by Matt Renshaw (71) and Peter Handscomb (64 not out) to put the hosts in total command on day one.

Key moment: Smith is dropped on 53 in the final over before the dinner break by 'keeper Sarfraz Ahmed.

Stat of the day: Three - number of tons by Smith in day-night first class matches, the most by any batsman.

Summary: Smith rode his luck after being dropped on 53 and offering another chance on 97 to seal his 16th Test ton and help Australia recover from 2-75 early on Thursday. It was no one man show. Renshaw struck his first half century in just his second Test while Handscomb again looked at home at Test level - even under Gabba lights facing a pink ball.

Quote of the day: "Steve came into the dressing room and said he smashed it so yeah I am surprised they didn't go up (to check on DRS) - honest Renshaw's response when asked about Smith nicking one on 97 but Pakistan not appealing or reviewing it.
