AUSTRALIA vs SOUTH AFRICA DAY 5

Score: South Africa win by 177 runs. South Africa 242 and 8(dec)-540. Australia 244 and 361

Man of the moment: Kagiso Rabada. The 21-year-old paceman cleaned up Australia's top order on Sunday with three key wickets and he continued the carnage on day five to finish with 5-92. Dale Steyn may be at the end of his career but South Africa can take comfort in the prospect of Rabada anchoring their attack for the next decade.

Key moment: The fall of Usman Khawaja. The 29-year-old was the main obstacle between South Africa and victory. But when part-time spinner JP Duminy got one to skid through his defences for an lbw decision, it was as good as over.

Stat of the day: 1988 - the last year Australia opened their summer with a Test loss at home.

Summary: South Africa are 1-0 up in the series after overcoming a horror first-day to dominate Australia for the rest of the match. Set a fourth-innings record 539 for victory, Australia were all out for 361. Only Khawaja (97) and Peter Nevill (60no) showed any true grit.

Quote of the day: "I know the guys would have been feeling a lot of stress and anxiety coming into the Test and it's probably only going to be heightened even more now." Former Test star Mike Hussey ponders the mindset of the Australian team.
