Socceroos improve on FIFA rankings

Australia's men's soccer team have improved three places on FIFA's latest rankings, which were released on Thursday, and are now up to 44th in the world.

It is four places higher than the Socceroos average position since FIFA's world rankings were created, and continues their steady improvement since bottoming out to be 100th in 2014.

The Socceroos have moved ahead of Japan to be the third-highest ranked Asian team, with Iran the best-placed in 29th and Korea next at 37th.

Argentina remain the world's No.1-ranked men's team, ahead of Brazil in second, Germany in third, Chile in fourth and Belgium in fifth.

The women's rankings were last amended on the 23rd of December, 2016, with Australia's Matildas at sixth in the world.
