The first ASB Classic semi-final spot has been booked after Portuguese world No.44 Joao Sousa raced past Dutchman Robin Haase in straight sets.

The 27-year-old Sousa showed his all-court game by winning more points on serve and return than 58th ranked Haase to win 6-3 6-2.

"I think I dominated, I was very aggressive during the whole match," he said.

He also applied the pressure from the get-go, breaking Haase early to claim the first set in just 27 minutes, before again gaining an early service break in the second to romp to victory.

Having already dumped Spanish fifth-seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas out of the tournament, Sousa carries good form into the semis.

He now waits for the winner of No.8 seed Marcos Baghdatis and Jiri Vesely.

Sousa said Haase appeared tired as the Dutchman was a shadow of the player who upset four-time champion and No.3 seed David Ferrer on Wednesday.

Unable to find his rhythm, Haase struggled on serve, getting only 64 per cent of first serves in and winning only 66 per cent of those points.
