Southern Stars offspinner Erin Osborne will remain with the Sydney Thunder for the 2016-17 WBBL season.

Osborne, who took 3-21 to claim player-of-the-final honours in last summer's decider against Sydney Sixers, claimed nine wickets in 12 games for the tournament.

"It's an exciting time for women's cricket and I'm just glad I can be amongst it with the Thunder girls," Osborne said.

The 27-year-old is one of three Southern Stars to have already committed to the Thunder club for the summer, with batter Alex Blackwell and seam bowler Rene Farrell also staying on.

"Erin was one of the key leaders during our successful WBBL01 campaign, setting the standard for our younger players," Thunder general manager Nick Cummins said.

"She really stood up when it counted in the grand final and I have no doubt she will bring the same similar level of performance this season."

The Thunder open their season in the televised match against the Melbourne Stars on December 10 at North Sydney Oval.
