A stolen ute was set alight before it rolled through a fence, crashing into a Tasmanian house.

The silver 2005 Mazda was stolen from a Bathurst Street house in Richmond on Sunday night and then set on fire about 4.30am on Monday in Hassell Place, Glenorchy, police say.

The ute then rolled about 80m down into a Brent Street house, causing considerable damage.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was destroyed.

No one in the home was harmed.

Police say a red and white Yamaha TT600 motorcycle was stolen from the front yard of a nearby Brent Street house on the same night and was later found nearby.
