Strikes against Queensland builder banned

The CFMEU has been temporarily banned from striking outside Brisbane building sites managed by a major contractor.

The Fair Work Building Commission has successfully brought an injunction against the union which prevents it holding a month-long spate of strikes and work stoppages outside sites run by Hutchinson Builders.

The ban comes after CFMEU officials allegedly targeted nine sites run by Hutchinson, disrupting work 15 times since late August.

According to statements filed in the Federal Court, the CFMEU's dispute with the contractor stems from it not consulting with the union and using non-EBA subcontractors.

The injunction expires at 4.15pm on October 11.
