Strong winds to strike Tasmania

Tasmanian residents are being warned of possible traffic hazards and power outages as rough weather sweeps across the state.

Rain and damaging wind is expected to strike on Friday with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe weather warning.

"A significant cold front will cross the state during Friday as the associated lows pass to the south," the bureau said.

Wind gusts are expected to reach more than 100km/h, while there is a statewide flood watch in place.

Recent rain has made the ground soft, meaning trees will fall more easily in strong winds.

Motorists are urged to take care.
