A suspected thief spotted lurking around a northern Sydney apartment block has been charged with a string of burglaries over 18 months.

The man was restrained by residents of a Narrabeen unit block on Friday afternoon after he was allegedly sprung trespassing in their underground car park.

Officers later raided the 24-year-old's Dee Why apartment and seized a swag of items believed to be stolen.

He has been refused bail to front Manly Local Court on Tuesday over four actual, and another three attempted, robberies of homes, shops and service stations across Sydney's northern beaches.
