A Sydney woman is fighting for life after her brother allegedly stabbed her multiple times.

Police say officers were called to the siblings' Waterloo home about 9.40am on Thursday after the 26-year-old man stabbed his sister, 28, numerous times in the neck, back and shoulder.

He allegedly ran from the Raglan Street home and was arrested nearby.

The woman was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she remains in intensive care suffering a punctured lung and lacerations.

The man has been refused bail and will face Downing Centre Local Court on Friday charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent.
