Australian representatives Nicola Carey, Lauren Cheatle and Naomi Stalenberg have re-signed with Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League season.

Carey, Cheatle and Stalenberg were key members of the Thunder's title winning side in last summer's inaugural WBBL.

The trio made their Australia debuts off the back of their starring efforts in the Thunder's championship win.

Cheatle, 17, who is sitting out the Southern Stars current tour of Sri Lanka to focus on her year 12 studies, said she was looking forward to getting back into cricket with the WBBL.

"Last season with the Thunder really helped me develop as a player," she said.

"Having the opportunity to train and play alongside the likes of Alex Blackwell and Rene Farrell was something I really enjoyed.

"I think we've got a great opportunity to build on what achieved last and hopefully have another successful season for both the men's and women's sides"

Thunder general manager Nick Cummins welcomed the trio's retention.

""All three women typified the fearless approach our players took in WBBL01 and we look forward to seeing them take the lead again this season," he said.

Thunder begin their WBBL02 season against Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval on December 10.
