The ABC is saving more than $200,000 by reducing the number of transcripts the public broadcaster produces.

Under questioning from Labor senator Kim Carr at a Senate estimates hearing on Tuesday, ABC corporate affairs director Michael Millett confirmed the broadcaster is tapering back the television and radio transcripts it produces.

Mr Millett said the change saves $210,000.
