Tas govt offers 2% public sector pay rise

A two per cent wage increase offer to Tasmania's public sector workers is fair and reasonable, the state government says.

Treasurer Peter Gutwein made public the offer in parliament on Wednesday in a move slammed by the Labor opposition as an ultimatum.

"With inflation currently at 1.2 per cent, a two per cent increase would see public sector wages increase in real terms and nearly twice as fast as inflation," Mr Gutwein said, adding that if the offer is rejected the government will engage in negotiations.
