One of Tasmania's most popular tourist attractions is seeking a new operator with tenders being called for the southern Tahune Airwalk business.

More than 70,000 people a year visit the site - managed by government-owned business Forestry Tasmania - to enjoy a tree-top walk taking in views across Huon and Picton rivers, or to use the cable hang glider.

"While we are very proud of the profitable business that we have developed over the past 15 years, Forestry Tasmania's focus is on growing trees, managing land and selling wood to domestic customers," boss Steve Whiteley said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that only the business is for sale and the site and facilities will be leased.
