A teenage boy has been charged after allegedly stabbing another teen in the stomach at a party in Sydney's north west overnight.

Just after midnight police were called to a hall in Box Hill, north of Blacktown, where they found around 100 people.

A 17-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed during a fight and was taken to Blacktown Hospital by his friends, before being transferred to Westmead Hospital.

He is in a serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery for a stab wound to his abdomen, police say.

After police spoke with partygoers, a teenage boy also aged 17 was arrested and taken to Castle Hill police station where he was charged with wound with intent.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in a children's court in September.
