A teenager has allegedly used a hat rack and a side table to assault a middle-aged man during a robbery attempt in a Brisbane unit before kicking a female officer trying to arrest him.

The 17-year-old was attempting to steal money from the 57-year-old occupant of a Lutwyche unit at 9am on Saturday when he used a hat rack and a small table to assault the male, police said.

The Slack's Creek teen then fled but was caught by police soon after, allegedly kicking the arresting officer.

The teen is now facing several charges including grievous bodily harm, robbery, wilful damage, assaulting police and obstructing police, and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

The victim needed treatment at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for serious facial injuries.
