Eight teenagers, some as young as 14, have been arrested following a series of home invasions and a carjacking in Melbourne.

Police say two homes in Williams Landing and one in Tarneit, in Melbourne's west were burgled on Sunday morning, with a car stolen from one home.

Six teenagers were allegedly found in the car when police later intercepted it outside the vacant property in Tarneit at 6:30pm on Sunday.

Earlier that afternoon, police say they found stolen goods belonging to the two homes that were robbed, in the same vacant house in Tarneit.

They arrested two teens after they jumped the fence trying to flee the vacant property.

Of the eight teenage boys arrested, six were charged on Monday.

Three aged 14, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old boy were charged with numerous offences including car theft and aggravated burglary.

A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old are expected to be charged at a later date.
