The last time Tony Fox saw the Western Bulldogs win a premiership, he was just six years old and living with his aunty and uncle in West Footscray.

"It's been a very lonely road," he says of the ensuing 62 years.

Walking from the MCG on Saturday evening, the 68-year-old says the win was long-awaited and at times, he felt victory was still out of reach.

"I was very tensed up until we won," he told AAP.

Mr Fox said he planned on celebrating with dinner and a drink at the pub.

For Lloyd Hanmer's family, it "was an emotional week" filled with pre-grand final festivities.

The lifelong Bulldogs fan went to the grand final at the MCG with son Aiden, 7, and wife Lisa.

"It was good to see it with him (Aiden) because I never got to do that with my dad when I was a kid," Mr Hanmer said.

"He actually says the experience could be up there with our kids being born," Ms Hanmer said.
