The Worst Movies Released in 2016

This past year gave moviegoers many wonderful films to see, from Disney's "Zootopia" to "Moonlight" and "Arrival." As they say, however, every basket is bound to have a few bad apples — and 2016 was no exception. Peppered among this year's cinematic successes were some epic misses, whether it be a failed sequel ("Zoolander 2") or a ridiculously-not-scary horror film ("The Boy").

PrettyFamous, an entertainment data site by Graphiq, gathered these unfortunate flicks together in order to determine the absolute worst movies of 2016.

To separate the biggest stinkers of the bunch, the experts at PrettyFamous first identified all 2016 movies (excluding documentaries) released up until Nov. 15 that made more than $3 million in the U.S. box office. They then ranked the lot according to their Smart Ratings. A Smart Rating is a weighted average out of 100 of a movie's Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and Audience Score, IMDb rating, Metacritic Metascore, Gracenote rating and its inflation-adjusted U.S. box office gross.

These cringeworthy films all have Smart Ratings under 50, but vary widely in their respective box office grosses (attributed to the many masochists out there). One particular film in the top 10, however, managed to make a paltry $3 million.
