Theme park company assures rides are safe

The owner of three Queensland theme parks is reassuring visitors about the safety of its rides in the wake of the tragedy at Dreamworld.

Village Roadshow owns and operates Movie World, Wet'n'Wild and Sea World on the Gold Coast.

All three parks were operating as normal on Wednesday in the wake of Tuesday's horror accident at Dreamworld, where four people died.

Village Roadshow said the safety and wellbeing of guests its top priority.

"We are committed to providing guests with a fun and safe environment," it said in a statement.

"The operation and maintenance of all rides and attractions is audited annually, both by internal and external parties.

"Daily maintenance inspections are also carried out on all attractions at our properties prior to opening."

None of Village Roadshow's theme parks have a rapid river ride like the one involved in the Dreamworld tragedy.

Dreamworld's owner, Ardent Leisure, is expected to make a statement later on Wednesday.

Village Roadshow shares were down more than four per cent on n the Australian stock exchange, while Ardent shares had lost more than eight per cent.
