Three kayakers have been rescued from a swollen and fast-moving River Torrens in the Adelaide Hills after spending two hours clinging to a log.

"We were just kayaking and it capsized," one of the kayakers told Nine after being rescued by the SES on Wednesday night.

The log stopped them being washed away, but it was nearly two hours before a member of the public spotted them and called help, Nine said.

Western Adelaide SES unit manager Hayden Feder said the three got lucky, but warned others against kayaking in such conditions.

"It is not a safe place to be. It is quite a treacherous place to be," he told reporters.

"In this situation, we have had a good outcome and we have been able to rescue the people who have been stuck. But this could have ended far worse for those people."
